I don’t know when this came about, but I’m enthralled with mypictr.com. Other than the obviously cheesy Flickr-like name, the service is awesome. It’s simple and to the point, giving you a quick way to make thumbnails for the million and one social networks out there today. I like that if I want to update my thumbnail on all my networks with the same photo, I can simply upload it once and edit it over & over again for all the different ones I need. It must have taken me all of five minutes to them, too.

Very awesome, indeed.

Virtual Office?

As more and more people run businesses out of their homes, virtual offices have become a life saver. I admit, I have often thought how helpful it would be to be able to run DTM with a receptionist and a “real” address. And while virtual offices have been on my mind as a good choice, I’m afraid of there being mixed up when there are a million other businesses in the same location. Just how does the receptionist know what I want said to my customer and how to handle things? And is it good when a customer stops by at random and I’m never in the office? Would they know? Would it be obvious if there were no signs up that say “DTM”? I just don’t know. Seems to work really well for some people. And really, it’s a dead giveaway when you have an apartment number on your address.

I wonder if there are places you can rent for photo shoots? You know, the kind that would come fully furnished with equipment? It would be interesting and I’ll have to look to see if any are available. Even if they didn’t have the equipment, just being able to have a place to take photos would be cool. To be honest though, I always have loved the people who buy older homes and renovate them for use as a studio/office. I think they’re the most fun and full of personality. Of course, with space being at a premium, it might just be simpler to buy a loft or brownstone instead of a full house.

With so many options and choices, we’ll see what I end up pursuing. I’ll probably write up the process or at least what my research turns up.

WP auto-saves entries now…

I am completely digging the new WP 2.2! I don’t know how it works but I noticed on my other blog that it was auto-saving my entry as I was writing it. Granted, it’s not every second or anything but it is enough where if you’re writing a rather long post, you aren’t going to lose anything significant.

I can appreciate that even though I’ve never had a problem with my posts disappearing on me. But my friend Rachel is what I call an all day writer. She’ll work all day on one post. Just off and on but still.

Had to share, I just love the feature.

Random side note: They stuck the preview into a link instead of it loading at the bottom of the writing post page. I love that, too!

I hate getting errors when I upgrade anything. Wordpress is no different and there tends to be one or two minor errors that I have to research and fix. Not that I’m complaining! Well, not really. Anyway, if you happen to upgrade your own WP to 2.2 and get this: 403 Forbidden You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/index-extra.php on this server. Simply put the following in your .htaccess and it works beautifully!

Of course, remove the spacing, I just did that because I’m tired of fighting to get my WP to post it as coding.

SimpleViewer and Pixelpost

I’m going to give SimpleViewer a try on Wekeli to see how well I like it. If it’s handy enough and versatile enough, it’ll stay. Otherwise, the other option is something akin to Pixelpost. Which, by the way, is lovely in action (see Firda Beka Photography as an exquisite example).

CSSeasy has a great set of quick examples of various layouts using CSS. They’re a nice way to jump start a design if you have an idea but aren’t certain of the best way to move forward with it. Very simplistic but sometimes it’s the basics that stop you from starting.

There are times when I find myself looking at a design and wondering how on earth that person put it all together. I’m not a big fan of simply stealing someone’s code (and thus, hard work) so I tend to try to find my own way to recreate it. Sometimes I’m successful, sometimes I’m not. It’s this type of learning attitude that makes me fall in complete love with WPDesigner. Not only does Small Potato offer a lovely collection of themes, there’s also plenty of tips and tricks to show you (step by step, I might add) how to achieve some rather cool stuff in CSS. I can not wait to delve further into it and put some of the information into some new themes!

Sandbox Designs Competition

I think I might give the Sandbox Designs Competition a go! It looks like fun although it will be a bit challenging. I like pretty things. Thus, I like to use photos and graphics through out my designs. Creating something simplistic can be beautiful but the closest I’ve ever come is this:

Which isn’t bad but still relies heavily on the image to carry the theme. Anyway, as I said, I think I’ll give it a shot and see how it turns out. Obviously I’ll post any designs I do up here, but you can catch the others via the results after June 29, 2007.
