Upgrading!

June 6th, 2007

Currently working on a new design for DTM and upgrading all maintained sites with WP to the most recent version (2.2 if anyone’s interested).

In the works is some further work with some photo centric themes and upgrading the old standby: Waterplay (which isn’t on DTM currently as it was originally developed for WP 1.0 or something similar)

Movable Type Open Source Project?

June 5th, 2007

So, some of you may know that I used to run blogs via b2 but I disliked it’s lack of updates. I moved on to Movable Type and it was good for a while. I just got disenchanted with it as I felt it wasn’t particularly friendly to people with little “behind the scenes” know how. Then I moved on to Wordpress and everything seemed to be a perfect fit. I’m able to maneuver around and create lovely designs while others are able to extend it further and further. Having it be an open source project means that it really is constantly being updated. I love that. And with every version that comes out, I find myself enjoying working with WP more and more.

And it seems to me that MT might be trying to cash in on the love of open source by offering an open source version of MT. It’s a little strange to me. I mean, if you’re doing well with a product, why would you offer an open source version? I’m sure there’s some motivation behind it that I’m not understanding. It’s probably a great business decision. Brings more people into the MT world, which in turn will hopefully bring them to actually wanting to pay for the product. Or at least that’s my way of thinking.

This web based CSS tweaker might come in handy

June 4th, 2007

It’s been around since 2006 but I just found CSS Tweak, which might be a boon to those people who are looking to minimize the size of their site and therefore speed up the download process. See the results for DTM below:
CSS Tweak

However, I am not likely to ever get the best results unless I maintained two copies of the CSS. I love my whitespace too much! And I like comments. I tried it with the options of Leave my layout alone! chosen & remove comments unchecked and my net savings was a mere 1%! :)

Without further ado

We proudly present writesitdown.com. :) Everything is functioning over there, although there is more work to be done with making it look more original and such. Also still in the process of adding more themes that work with MU and more plugins. But, if you want in on the cutting edge, go and grab your own space there. :)

Wordpress MU & writesitdown.com

November 30th, 2006

Currently, we own the domain writesitdown.com. The plan was to eventually offer up free blogs in the form of bob.writesitdown.com, etc. Just something interesting and unique for an address. Now of course, looks like it could be a good possibility of use with the release of Wordpress MU which powers Wordpress.com. Anyway, long story short, we’re going to install it and tweak it as needed and see if we can get this working the way we want. If you’d like to be part of the testing or eventually just have a home for yourself, feel free to leave a comment or contact us.
